“I’m a philosopher by training and an economist by trade”
That explains a lot. And I mean that in a good way. You clearly got a good classical education in philosophy (or provided such to yourself) instead of the form that has largely predominated that is full of mental masturbation and arcane nonsense that has nary a thing to do with real life and the real world.
I’m no expert on philosophy, by any means, but I know that I was turned off by much of what I was introduced to. And I’m sure that’s why the general public also has a very low opinion of the field. It really needs to be rehabilitated in the public eye, that’s for sure.
Thanks. I actually wanted to be a monk for a while. I fell in love with philosophy while staying at a monastery in New York State. It was my minor in college.
